Accessing the Tools Using a Smartphone or Tablet

Introduction

AllLots of rebels do not have access to a computer and instead rely on a smartphone or tablet to do their XR work. While the tools are accessibledesigned thisprimarily way,for butuse may lookwith a bitcomputer, different.they can also be accessed by a mobile device either by downloading an app or by using an ordinary web browser.

This guide isaims forto thoseexplain:

  • How to access the tools using an app (if one exists) and the device's browser
  • Any key differences between the mobile and the desktop versions of the tool

Note: This document assumes that you are using either an Apple or Android device. If you are not onthen desktop/laptopyou computers.are unlikely to have an app that you can download but the browser approach should still work.

Mattermost work well onFor a normaldetailed phone browser if you don't want to download the app.

(1) Teams/Channels

Your current team is highlighted with a light blue bar. Any teams with new messages will have a light blue dot next to them.

You can view PUBLIC CHANNELS, PRIVATE CHANNELS, and DIRECT MESSAGES.

Tap to switch Team, or Channel.

(2) Channel Information

Please do not Rename Channels in Mattermost.

(3) Channel Header

Each channel should have some useful information explaining what is it and possibly some links. If you don't know what to do start here.

Tap to search for messages or people, including some ways to restrict the search as above.

  1. Recent Mentions - see where someone has posted a message with your handle (@username)
  2. Saved Posts - if you flag posts you can save them for later, like bookmarking.
  3. Account Settings - change your personal info, notifications etc.
  4. Invite People - please don't use this, as your Tech Champion/Group Admin to invite people

    Accessing via the Hub

    To Membersaccess -Mattermost see who is invia the team, or find someone to DM.

  7. Join Another Team - let's you search and join all Public Teams.
  8. Leave Team - think carefully before leaving as you may need a Tech Champion/GA to add you back in.

Use via App

NB - if you are accessing Mattermost for the very first time,app you need to verify your email address and you can't do this using the app.

Please either use your computer or open your browser on your phone.

  • Type organise.earth into the address bar, then press enter.
  • Type in your email address and your password.
  • Click on Resend Email.
  • Go to your email inbox and find the one from XRGlobal (remember to check your Spam if you can't find it in your inbox).
  • Click on Verify Email. This will take you back to the Mattermost log in page and your email address will have been entered automatically.
  • Enter your password and log in.

Now you will be able to use the appto:

  1. DownloadInstall the Mattermost app from either the Google Play Store (Android), or the Apple App Store (iPhone/iPad).

  2. When you openOpen the appapp. for the first time youYou will be prompted bysee a screen that looks similar tolike this:

    Enter https://organise.earth and tapclick Connect.

  • Enter your username and password and click Sign in

  • Accessing via the browser

    To access Mattermost using your browser you need to:

    1. Navigate to https://organise.earth by entering it into the URL bar
    2. Enter your username and password and click Sign in

    Key differences with desktop app

    Switching teams and channels

    To switch between teams and channels using either the app or browser you need to click the three-line icon at the top left of the screen (circled in red below):

    UK Forums

    Accessing via the app

    To access UK Forums via the app you need to:

    1. Install Discourse Hub from either the Google Play Store or Apple App Store

    2. Open the app. You will see a screen that looks something like this:

    3. Click + Add your first site

    4. Enter base.extinctionrebellion.org.uk. You will then see a screen that looks like this: path837.png

    5. Click connect (circled in red)

    6. Follow the remaining instructions to log in using your username and password

    Accessing via the browser

    To access UK Forums via the browser:

    1. Navigate the base.extinctionrebellion.org.uk using the URL bar
    2. Enter your username and password and log in

    UK Cloud

    Accessing via the app

    To access UK Cloud via the app you need to:

    1. Install the Nextcloud app from either the Google Play Store or Apple App Store

    2. Open the app. You will see a screen that looks like this:

    3. Click Log in (circled in red). You will then be promptedtaken forto youra loginscreen details.like this:

    4. Enter https://cloud.extinctionrebellion.uk in the URL field (as shown above) then click Log in

    5. Click Log in one additional time and you should now see this screen:

    6. Either enter your username (or email address) and password and thenclick tap SignLog in.

    7. Youor shouldalternatively nowyou becan loggedclick in!Log in with XR UK Hub to use your hub credentials

    UK Forums

    Direct UseCloud via Browserthe browser:

    1. Navigate to https://cloud.extinctionrebellion.uk via the URL bar
    2. Enter you username and password and click Log in or click Log in with XR UK Hub to log in with your hub credentials

    Key differences with desktop app

    Editing office documents

    ThereAlthough it is nopossible dedicatedto read office documents on your mobile device it is unfortunately not possible to edit them as this is restricted by ONLYOFFICE's licensing requirements. This applies both to the app for the forums, but they will work perfectly welland in athe browser.

    iphonef1.pngThe simple text editor provided by Nextcloud however works well so we encourage using this over an office document where possible.

    Vault

    Note: Before following along with this section you need to have already created an account on the Vault. See this page for instructions on how to do this.

    Getting access

    To access the Vault on your mobile device you need to:

    1. Install Bitwarden from either the Google Play Store or Apple App Store

    2. Open the app. You will see a screen that looks like this:

    3. Click on the topgear youicon havein athe rowtop-left of iconsthe to take you to Mattermost, UK Cloud, XRUK Website, Search, Menu and Mentions/infoscreen (your avatar or letter), respectively.

      If you tap on Categories you can select 'Latest' or 'Unread' to see those postscircled in forumsred), you are subscribed to.

      UK Cloud

      Direct Use via Browser

      The three dotsthis will bring up a rangescreen ofthat linkslooks tolike other apps (Mattermost, Forms, Polls, etc.), the magnifying glass will let you search for files, the bell (with red dot) will show changes to your files/apps and the avatar (or letter on the top right) will let you edit your settings.this:

      Accessing functions, and differences to the full browser version:

      1. Tapping the logo or the Home icon will take you back to this screen.path839.png

      2. ToEnter showhttps://vault.extinctionrebellion.uk recent activity tap onin the threeServer dots,URL field (red box) and then Activityclick -Save things(circled youin have done and things other people may have shared with you.red)

      3. ThereClick isLog no Gallery view on phone.in

      4. Three dots, then Calendar to seeEnter your Caledar, which you can sync with your own devicesusername and sharemaster with other users.

      5. Three dots, then Deck - 'Kanban' project management app.

      6. Three dots also have icon links to the the Hub, XRUK website, UK Forumpassword and Mattermost.

      7. Magnifying glass - search.

      8. Bell (plus red dot) - notifications. (if you have notifications to read a red dot will appear.)

      9. Your avatar/letter - tap to change personal settings, upload a pitcure or logout.

      10. The "Breadcrumbs" area. The path to the current folder will appear here - tap a parent folder to jump back. If you can editLog in the folder a (+) icon will appear to allow you to create or upload a new file or folder, otherwise the message shown in the screengrab above will be shown.

      11. There is not Recent files area on phone.

      12. The folder and file list. Tap on a folder name to open that folder. Tap on a filename to view or download.

      13. If a file is shared with you then you will see the avatar of the person who shared it with you on the right.

      14. Tap on the three dots next to the file for options including download, and add to favourites.

      15. Tap on the three dots next to the file, and select Details for additional information and options.

      16. The hamburger menu (top left) gives you extra views including items you have marked as "Favourites" - a useful quick way to find folders or files you often need.

      Use via App

      Download the Nextcloud App on your smart phone or tablet (Android or iOS) https://nextcloud.com/install/#tab-mobile or search for "Nextcloud" in your App store.
